Today the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition will honor community leaders across Massachusetts who Give Liberty A Hand Over 200 people gathered in support of MIRA at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center to honor the work of: Zamawa Arenas (Principal, ARGUS), Olive Brown (Codman Square Health Center), Moira Lucey (International Institute of Boston), and Congressman Martin Meehan (U. S. House of Representatives).
The individuals being honored this year are strong, determined leaders who value their newest neighbors. Drawing on American values of hard work, education and family, these leaders make Massachusetts a better place for immigrants and refugees, and make the Commonwealth a better place for us all. “This is a special time in our nation’s history,” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition. “In the midst of a growing immigrant rights movement, it is important that we take time to honor those who have played such a critical role in supporting immigrants and refugees.”
Noorani continued, "Zamawa Arenas, Olive Brown, Moira Lucey, and Congressman Martin Meehan represent the very best of our community and our allies. It is an honor to work with them in this struggle for social justice.”
